Our Story

Ayers Electronic Systems, LLC was founded in February 2008 in Richmond, Virginia with a straightforward premise: that the transportation industry — and the complex, mission-critical systems that keep it running — deserved better engineering partners. Not vendors pitching off-the-shelf solutions. Not large firms staffing projects with whoever was available. Real engineers, with deep domain expertise, who could take ownership of hard problems and see them through.

That conviction hasn't changed. What has changed is the breadth of organizations that have come to rely on us.

What began in transportation has grown into a consulting practice that serves federal agencies, commercial enterprises, and organizations across industries where the stakes are high and failure is not an option. The engineering discipline we built in one of the most demanding technical domains in the world turns out to translate everywhere.


Proven in the Field

Our engineers have designed, developed, integrated, and tested complex distributed systems for some of the largest and most recognized organizations in rail transportation — including CN, CSX, Kansas City Southern, and Amtrak. Our staff has accumulated over 90 years of combined experience in specifying, designing, integrating, and testing Positive Train Control (PTC) systems, working across 15 different railroads.

We have served as a voting member of the IEEE Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) standards body and worked extensively with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and New York City Transit. We don't just implement standards — we help shape them.
